Position Summary - After School Clubs Teacher
After School Lead Teacher reports to the Executive and Directors. The duties of this position include the direct supervision of children, planning and directing activities, complying with WI State Licensing rules, and the day to day functions of the program.
Discretion and Accountability:Teachers report to the Executive and Directors. Teachers are responsible for the day to day activity of the group they are assigned to. Teachers must follow ASC policies and procedures and state licensing rules.
Job Activities:Each Lead Teacher is responsible for planning daily, weekly and/or monthly activities for their designated group. The core learning center areas that you will plan for are: Arts & Crafts, Music & Movement, Blocks and Construction, Drama/Theater, Language/reading Activities, Math and Reasoning and Science/Nature.
Lesson Planning:Lesson planning time is to be used for preparing lesson plans, getting materials ready for activities, preparing sign-in books and doing any necessary paperwork or reading. Lessons need to be planned weekly or bi-weekly with assistant teacher and posted on Monday before the program starts. Plans should be coordinated with the monthly activity calendar which teachers need to use to sign up for field trips. Write weekly or bi-weekly newsletter for parents informing them of highlights of the past week and notifying them of upcoming events. Deliver newsletters to parents either via email or ASC mailboxes. Submit a shopping list to the Assistant Director each week with needed supplies.
Communication:Keep open communication with all ASC Teaching Staff, ASC Management Staff, ASC Board Members, Parents and school district personnel. Write a weekly newsletter for parents informing them of highlights of the past week and notifying them of the upcoming events. Teachers should make an effort to communicate with parents daily. Distribute any communications Directors to parents via mailboxes. Prior to special days, be sure all parents have indicated their children’s plans on the sign-up sheets. All staff must follow the ASC Grievance Policy. Express concerns or difficulties with the Directors and keep them informed of potential problems. Post signs in sign-in books at all times stating where the group is. Groups need to return to the school by 5:00 P.M. and to the cafeteria by 5:30P.M.
Teaching and Supervision of Children:Provide a diversity of age appropriate activities for children, including: arts and crafts, free play, outdoor play, organized games, cooking, science experiments, quiet time, individual/small group/large group activities, and special activities such as bowling, swimming, library, and other walking field trips. Attend to children at all times providing a safe environment, caring for any injuries or illness, documenting them in the medical log and informing parents of the same. Document incidents and unusual or violent behavior in the incident log informing parents of the same. Teach self-sufficiency skills, good manners and responsibility for themselves and material. Encourage respect for themselves, others and materials. Encourage respect for themselves, other people, things, and ideas. Model appropriate behavior for children. Assist children with conflict resolution. Discipline according to ASC policies.
Experience and Skills Required:Must be 18 years of age per State Licensing rules.Must have completed high school or its equivalent as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.Must meet State Licensing educational/experience requirements for a teacher.Experience must include 80 working days as a full-time assistant child- care teacher or 120 working days as a half time Assistant childcare Teacher and one of the following must be met:2 non-credit department-approved courses in early childhood2 years of credit form an institution of higher education with at least 3 credits in early childhood education or its equivalent.2 courses for credit in early childhood education or its equivalent form an institution of higher education.One year child care diploma from an institution of higher education.One year of an associate of arts degree in child care from an institution of higher education.Child Development Associate Credential issued by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.30 credits from an institution of higher education, including 2 courses for credit in Early Childhood Education.Certificates from American Montessori Society or Association Montessori International.\License from the Wisconsin Department of PublicInstruction to act as a pre-Kindergarten or Early Childhood Teacher.
The above requirements may be substituted with department approved experience, credits, or approved courses in elementary education, physical education, child guidance, recreation, or other department-approved training.
